There are seemingly a million different places to go to college throughout the United States. You can go to the warm weather of Los Angeles or the calmness of Big Ten country. But really there’s only one place I’d like to be: New Jersey. You are probably hearing a lot of negative things about my home state but there are a greater number of awesome things to be sure. So I’m here to tell you exactly why New Jersey is the best place to be and why there’s really no place like it in the entire country.
You’ve probably been hearing a great number of negative things about the state with shows like Jersey Shore and Real Housewives of New Jersey. But these are just the stereotypes that make up a very very small percentage of people in the state. Avoid Seaside Heights and the really rich towns and you’ll avoid these people pretty easily. People probably tell you that it’s like a dump or just New York’s dumping ground but that’s really far from the truth.
The first thing you have to know is that New York City is just a short train ride away from most places in the state of New Jersey. Just hop on the Northeast Corridor train line and you’ll be in the heart of the city within an hour. People always want to be in the suburbs of a city and unbeknownst to many, most of those suburbs and smaller cities are located in Northern New Jersey, not New York. Most of the people you meet at schools in New Jersey are from places like this and have been filled with great amounts of culture throughout their lives.
New Jersey is also one of the most diverse places in the country. For example, Rutgers is the most diverse school in the country. People from every background ethnically or culturally can come to a school in New Jersey and easily fit in. There will always be people like them no matter where they go and that’s really the beauty of New Jersey.
There are a million more reasons to come to New Jersey that I really can’t think of right now or even begin to count, but just come here and give this place a chance. You won’t regret it.
